Dog Beds and Sewing

DSC04437

Kady needed a bed for her crate and they are so expensive to buy from the store and I wanted particular colors and I wanted it to fit into her crate perfectly. I looked around on Etsy.com to see what kind of beds I could find on there and decided it would be really easy to make a couple so I headed to Fabric.com after looking around at the Joanns and Hobby Lobby here in town. I loved these 3 sets of fabric and I could make a bed for each dog. I started sewing Sun afternoon and got 2 of them made. I had already made 1 bed last week with some fabric I had in the house from the curtains I had made in the old house. The fabric is really thin though so I made sure to buy upholstery grade fabric for the new beds.

I used the zig zag fabric for Kady’s crate and she love her new fluffy bed. I used a water proof mattress pad sewn into the top of the bed incase she has an accident it won’t mess up the padding.

DSC04440

She’s getting so long and gangly. lol We’ll still be able to use this crate for a while but we might have to upgrade when she’s grown so she still has plenty of room. She loves to go in there and sleep during the day so we leave the door open all the time. And when this dog sleeps, she sleeps HARD!

I made the pink bed with dogs on it for Pooh. N had laughed at me and said that Pooh was never going to sleep on a bed when she could sleep on the sofa but she’s actually slept on it a good bit already so N had to eat his works! LOL She even went in Kady’s crate and slept for 2 hours the other night, that shocked us! Ki goes in there and sleeps a lot and that’s one reason I decided to make the beds for the other girls.

The top and bottom piece all cut out. How adorable is that fabric!

Ki had to break it in too.

While Pooh went and got on Ki’s bed.

DSC04448

Kady’s favorite place to sleep is still in the big bed though! Usually around 8 or 9 if we don’t see her in her crate we can find her in the bed on a pillow. She loves having the stairs so she can walk on up!

Today our neighbor brought their puppy over for a little play date and they had so much fun together. They have played before but Kady has grown a good bit since then so now she knows she’s bigger than Inu, she will throw herself on the grown and let him climb all over here. It was so funny. By 7:30 she had gone and got in the bed and left her little friend all alone! lol

We’ve had a boring week off. N was suppose to go to TX again to pick up an aircraft so we didn’t make any weekend plans and then he got a text at 10:30 the night before a 6:30am flight saying not to get on a plane because the aircraft wasn’t ready. Thank God he got that text otherwise he would have just been sitting in TX doing nothing and then they would have sent him back home and nothing would have been accomplished. Now they are planning to send him back out there sometime this week which messes up my plans for going to TN for closing. I was planning to leave the dogs at home and now I have to take them. I’m praying Kady does ok on the 4 hour drive. Yikes. The good new though is we are closing on the house either Wed or Fri, the bank wanted to move the closing up but they were waiting on a piece of paperwork. I don’t care as long as we get the papers signed this week! The buyers have already moved into the house, at least the wife has. Sharon told me that they have a St. Bernard puppy and the puppy is terrified of Hailey because she keeps barking at her and trying to dig under the fence. My first thought was “hm that dog door isn’t going to be big enough for long!”.

Lazy week

Since N got home from TX on Tues we’ve been pretty lazy. N has played a lot of video games and working out and I’ve been reading and going to the gym. Kady is keeping us entertained with all her silliness and Ki and Pooh still act like they hate her most of the time. One day they will be friends, I hope. LOL She’s still doing GREAT with house training. She hasn’t gone in the house in over a week now, hopefully that will continue when we are in a house without a dog door for her to go out of whenever the urge hits. She figured out the steps in the night stand last night! We were getting ready for bed and we didn’t see her, I though N had locked her outside so I went to check while he walked to the bedroom. He said “um come here, I found her” and when I walked into the room she was curled up one the pillow looking at us like “it’s late and I’m tired!” She went up the steps again this morning so Ki’s days of hiding from her on the bed are over! lol Poor baby. We had our neighbors Brian and Jamie over Fri night, they have a puppy that is a Pomeranian something mix, he’s the color of a cattle dog but the size of Barky with the long hair. He and Kady played SO hard for a solid 3 hours. When they left she laid down and passed out. LOL She got me up at 3 to go potty and before I even had the door closed and locked she was back in the bedroom whining to get back in bed (this was before she figured out the steps) then she got up at 7 when she heard N up and wanted to go eat, then she got back in bed and slept til 10! That is super late for her! Usually 8 is about the latest you can keep her in bed before she is just walking all over my head and chewing my hair.

Look at that face!

This one makes me giggle, just imagine Ki screaming “MOOOMMMM she’s BITING ME”.

DSC04335

No idea why Ki decided to go in the crate but Kady was barking at her.

DSC04356

This picture is so weird to me!

DSC04354

Pooh likes to guard her favorite toys so Kady can’t play with them. She flip flops between Hotdog and Hedge hog as her babies.

Maybe one day we’ll be able to get a picture of all 3 of them together!

Prayers answered!

We have an offer on the house!!! I can hardly believe that barely 48 hours after I asked for prayers we have an offer! We countered a few things but it shouldn’t be a big deal and hopefully tomorrow we’ll have everything signed and ready to go! They want to close on Sept 2nd and move in early and I’m ok with that!

Thank you for the prayers and keep them coming that everything goes smoothly!

Some house prayers please.

Our house in Clarksville has been on the market since April 15th. We’ve had very few looks and no offers. We’ve decided that if it doesn’t sell this month we are going it pull it off the market and try to rent it out. That was our last option but the market in Clarksville is really slow right now. If you drive through our old neighborhood it looks like half the houses are for sale. People are trying to get away from the 101st right now and I can’t blame them, we left too. Also it’s been 3 years since most people bought and generally people PCS every 3-5 years unless they request to stay longer or move sooner so it’s time for a turn over. We would LOVE nothing more than to have someone put in an offer this month but if that doesn’t happen we are praying we can find some great renters that will take good care of the house. We knew this was a possibility so we have plenty in savings so that isn’t an issue but I’d much rather keep that money in savings or use it for a nice vacation! As it is we could have taken a very nice vacation with the mortgage and utilities from the past June until now. That’s the risk you take these days I guess but some extra prayers would be really appreciated.

We are doing pretty good. Still adjusting to being together so much. In the army you get lots of practice on living apart but that living together thing is pretty tough too! This has been the longest we’ve lived together since Nicholas was in flight school. Kady is growing like a little weed and more of her personality comes out each day. She’s doing really good with house training and so far we’ve been a few days without any accidents in the house. The dog door is the best thing in the world! She does good walking on a leash but she’s not a huge fan of taking rides yet. I can’t blame the girl, as far as we know her first ride was in the middle of the night and she ended up in a dark alley all alone and her second ride was to the vet. We’re trying to take her on short rides to get her used to being in the car and feeling safe. We had briefly discussed coming home at the end of the month when he’s off again but it depends on how she’s doing in the car. One way or the other she has to get used to them eventually.

Mama and Daddy came to visit last weekend and we had a good time! It was nice to show off the house and area to them. We went to a few cool places shopping and I took them to the farmers market downtown. We also took them out to the hangar so they could see the helicopter that Nicholas flies. Ki and Pooh were very excited to see them and Kady was excited because they were! They did not want her to get any of their attention from the grandparents though! So jealous!!

It’s hard to get everyone looking at the camera! lol

DSC04312

DSC04313

My daylillies have seen better days now. The monster has chewed them to pieces. I’m pretty sure in this picture Pooh is telling her “go ahead, mama lets us in there ALL the time!!”

DSC04324

“Uh oh, oh Hi Mama! Don’t mind us!”

DSC04323

They like to lay under the little table in the corner of the room. Ki lays under there all the time and sometimes Kady will join her.

DSC04326

They are SO funny when they play together. Pooh still doesn’t get in on the fun but Ki will every now and then. She starts breathing hard pretty fast, Red dog needs more cardio. lol

Making this house a little more home.

We went finally went and dug out all the pictures we had hanging in the old house and found places for them in this house. We also added a few new pictures and I just ordered some of the girls from walgreens to frame and I’ll be done.

The den.

DSC04303

I’m going to  put the pictures of the girls in this corner.

DSC04304

The rug by the door says “Hair of the Dog. Help yourself it’s everywhere” so so true.

The door has been painted white now. I should have taken another pictures but didn’t realize this one still had the old door. DSC04290

The kitchen.

DSC04310

We bought a crate for Kady and N set it up this morning and she loves it! We threw some toys in there and left the door open and she’s gone in there to sleep a number of times and we’ve closed the door a few times and it doesn’t seem to bother her a bit. I’m really glad because we were a little worried how how it would be to get her used to the thing. Ki and Pooh have no idea what is going on with it though or why she would WANT to be in there. LOL

N got a great pic of Ki and Kady the other night, no one was growling or barking, very unusual!!

This is how Ki feels about everything these days.

Kady is sitting on the sofa right now barking at Ki and she is so loud. I think Ki hates her a little more every day. Poor Ki.

The den makeover.

When we moved into this house I hated the color in den. The walls were this horrible drab tan color and the exposed beams were a darker mud brown. As soon as I had permission from our landlord to paint I was ready to do it. I didn’t think about a few things though like how long it was going to take to paint the room and how much attention a new puppy who loves to chew needs. She made the process quite a bit longer! I wanted to paint the beams and trim white and a light blue for the walls. It took 3 days to get it all done and one of those days N was home so he was on Kady duty and I painted from 9-7:30 that night to finish it all up. It looks so much better and I love it!

Before

In process. The blue was not working with that brown at all.

I still need to put the curtains back up and get some pictures on the walls. I’m just so glad the room doesn’t looks like a dungeon anymore! We will be building an entertainment center soon to hide all the cords so Miss Chews a lot can’t get to them. This room is set up very oddly and cords are in strange places.

The girls are all getting along a little bit better now. Ki actually PLAYED with Kady today! We’ve been waiting all week for her to warm up and stop biting at her and it was so cute watching them play. Kady has been so much fun so far but we really had forgotten how much work a puppy takes! Since this is a rental we can’t leave her out loose while we are gone because she gets into everything her little teeth can fit around. We had been locking her in the tub because we have glass sliding doors and she can’t get out but she HATES it because she can’t see what’s going on in the rest of the house. This morning we needed to run to the store so she needed to be put up and I remembered that we have a pack and play in the basement that I’ve had for years because Erin left it at my house when I would keep Maddie. I didn’t see any point in getting rid of it because it was brand new so we decided to hang onto it for a future baby. N went down and pulled it out and she loves the thing! She stayed in it without screaming when we left and we put her in there when it was dinner time because she gets so distracted she won’t go ahead and eat and she was fine and I put her in there one time while she was sleeping and she stayed in there until the dogs barked and woke her up. I did order a crate for her yesterday but this will work great until the crate gets here.

The girls have all established their spots on the sofa. N and I get to sit in the empty spots! lol

She plays hard and sleeps hard. She knows how to go in and out the dog door and it’s so cute to watch. She actually got up from the sofa and went outside to potty all on her own this afternoon so house training is going well.

Puppy

We have a new puppy. We’ve always been very set in our 2 hands 2 dogs rule but it seems that life had other plans for us. At 1am Sun morning I woke up and heard this really loud screaming/crying sound. My bed sits against the window so I looked out and saw something moving around N’s truck in the driveway. We have a lot of neighborhood cats so I was worried that a couple of them were fighting and we have a cat door in the basement and I didn’t want a hurt or scared cat coming in that door. I went down to the basement to put something infront of the door and when I looked out I realized it wasn’t a cat at all but a tiny puppy. I opened the door and said “come here baby” and she ran straight to me still crying. I went back upstairs and told N to turn on the light and he kept asking me if everything was ok and I said “just turn on the light!” he finally did and the look on his face was priceless! She was clean and smelled good so I thought for sure she had just wondered off and had to belong to a neighbor. We have a yahoo group for our neighborhood so I put up a post right away figuring someone would claim her as soon as they got up and saw she was gone. Wrong. At 8:30 N went around to all the houses within puppy walking distance and no one claimed her. N went to walmart and got some poster board and put up signs and we did get a couple of calls telling us that a neighbor had a new puppy but that is our next door neighbor and we knew this wasn’t their dog. Of course by this point we are starting to get attached to her! By last night when we didn’t have any calls we knew we had a new dog. She is an absolute sweetheart and doing really good with house training so far. She now knows how to go in and out the dog door! She’s a very fast learner. The only problem we have is she still doesn’t have a name! We refused to even think about names until last night when we finally decided we were too attached to take her to a shelter. N and I have very different ideas about names so it might take a while for us to agree on anything. For now we call her Puppy.

DSC04218

DSC04221

She LOVES toys and so far the ducks are her favorites.

DSC04224

DSC04234

The girls are not handling the change very well at all. Pooh is starting to tolerate her a little bit more but Ki is just MAD. She is MAD beyond words actually. She will barely even come near us. Everytime  Puppy goes near her she either growls or just walks away. The night that I found Puppy Ki was so upset she was doing her anxious mouth foaming/drooling thing. Pooh doesn’t seem to be nearly as mad at us and she doesn’t run to avoid Puppy anymore. They still won’t even consider playing with her though which is sad because she wants to play SO bad. Hopefully they will warm up to her soon because this is their life now. I still can’t believe we have 3 dogs. Lord help us. LOL

Oh and right now she’s about 5lbs. The vet thinks she will be a small-medium size dog, we are hoping she doesn’t get any bigger than 30ish lbs.
